Serbia outshine Romania in preliminary round, Group B: Day six – European Water Polo Championships
Serbia outshined Romania in their fourth Men’s water polo qualifying match of Group ‘B’ on day six of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Saturday, January 21 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Serbian squad has continued their dominance by winning fourth match of the water polo tournament with a considerable distance of nine goals. Serbia enjoyed an easy win over Romania as they smothered all efforts of their competitors with a 14-5 struggle.
Serbia remained dominant over its challenging team throughout the game. With their exceptional skills and strategies, the Serbian squad accomplished three goals in the initial round while Romanian players failed to advance on the points table, suffering
a 3-0 deficit in the first quarter.
The same continued in the second quarter, where Romanian athletes remained at nil and failed to pass the ball in Serbian cage just for once. On the other hand, Serbia excelled in round two and notched up four goals to prove their dominance over Romania.
The score went up to 7-0 after the first half.
The third quarter was a bit surprising, where the Romanian squad achieved their first goal in the initial two minutes of the round, but their effort was trailed by three goals from the Serbian side. With the persistent efforts of Serbian athletes, the score
remained 10-1 after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw nerve-wrecking performances from both teams, but it was too late for Romania to fight back as it was impossible to recover a lead of nine goals in the final eight minutes of the game. Romanian squad gained four goals in the final round
and their effort was levelled out by Serbian team, which also marked four goals to enjoy a comfy win over their opposing team.
Dusko Pijetlovic of Serbia chipped in four goals for his team and was declared man of the match. The crowd acknowledged scintillating efforts of Serbian squad that wishes to excel at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
In addition, Serbia will now compete with Montenegro in their fifth bout of the competition on Monday, January 23.
