Serbia overpower Germany in preliminary round, Group B: Day two – European Water Polo Championships
Serbia senior national team overpowered Germany in their second Men’s water polo contest of Group ‘B’ on day two of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Tuesday, January 17 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
Unfortunately, the German team failed to show any substantial development in their game strategy and has failed to excel in any of its matches. On the other side, Serbian squad continues to serve notice of their talent and has remained unbeaten in the tournament.
The match ended with a tight leash, but Serbia managed to claim victory by a margin of one goal. The Serbian squad overcame Germany with a 13-12 effort.
The Germans proved their dominance over Serbia in the first quarter, where they accomplished three goals. In contrast, Serbia responded by scoring two goals against their competitor and they went down 2-3 after the conclusion of first quarter.
The battle continued in second round, where Germans clinched two goals. This time, their effort was interrupted by Serbians, who managed to notch five goals in the same round. At the end of second round, the Serbians earned a lead of two goals, as the score was 7-5.
The third quarter experienced relentless efforts of both teams, which scored four goals against each other. With four goals effort of Germany, the competition was intensified and the score went up to 11-9 after the third round.
The German players elevated their efforts in fourth quarter and accomplished three goals. Their struggle was trailed by Serbian athletes, who notched up two goals and once again ascended on the score card. Germany needed to score just one goal to tie the match, but Serbian players took control over the ball until the end and secured their victory.
Marc Politze was declared man of the match as he contributed four goals to pave the way for his team’s victory. Furthermore, the spectators acknowledged aggressive efforts of Serbian squad that managed to claim victory over Germany in the game. In addition, Serbia will now compete with Croatia in its third preliminary match on Thursday, January 19.
