Serbia shows intent for victory at 2011 CEV Girls’ Youth European Championship
The Girls’ National Youth Team of Serbia has confirmed its ambition for victory while playing in the second match of the final round of the championship.
After making a successful start on Saturday against Spain, the Serbs launched their authority on the Czech Republicans in the second match. Serbia defeated Czech Republic by 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-13, and 25-13). The thrilling match was played at the Baskent
Sports Hall in Ankara, Turkey while it was witnessed by some 2,000 spectators.
The Serbian team had good energy after winning their first match against Spain. On the other hand, Czech Republic was down with a shaky start in the final round. They were challenged by the host team (Turkey) in the previous match, where Turks profited the
home advantage and defeated Czech girls in straight sets.
Therefore, it was not a big confrontation for Serbia. The Serbs started out with commanding serves by Bianka Busa and Maja Simic. The opposite side was also ready to cope with the power of Serbs. The uniquely positioned Czech defence expert received the
ball and the wing-spikers responded in the same tone.
The game started and both sides exchanged long rallies. Czech Republic managed to find the perfect rhythm and added consecutive points. Serbia trailed behind at the first technical timeout (FTT) with a difference of three points.
Michael Kubickova of Czech Republic made good use of her hands and put away the ball with such speed that it promptly landed on the Serbian side. The Czech squad was on the go. They hit from different angles and maintained their lead until the finish line.
Finally, they hit the mark in the 27th minute of the game and secured the first set at 25-21.
The loss of opening set forced Serbia to realign their team line and bring in some necessary changes. They went through a hard time in first set of the game and it was a bad sign for them.
Nonetheless, the Serbs came strong on rivals in the following set. They had discussed their weak points during the vital timeout, so the Serbs followed a different approach. They grasped the game plan of the opponents and came up with the right strategy.
The start of second set was wonderful as Serbia took an early lead of 6 points.
Bianka Busa and Mina Tomic showed their attacking power and stormed the Republican half with groundbreaking shots. The Serbian girls were all on the floor and heavily influenced their counterparts. Czech Republic seemed to have lost momentum and totally
collapsed in the hands of Serbs. The second set ended in the favour of Serbia as they posted 25-18 on the scoreboard.
Serbia was back in business. They equalled the score in the second set and opened the next set in a great way. They spiked hard and did not allow Czech Republic to return to the game. Good blocking and better spiking abilities enabled Serbs to capture the
third set with ease.
The Czech side failed to stay in the way of deadly spikes by Serbs and finished third set with extremely low score of 13. The situation remained the same for Czechs in the fourth set. They had indeed opened the match on a solid footing but they could not
keep the same energy in following sets. The fourth set was also won by Serbia, which declared Serbs as the winners of the match. Serbs were greatly praised by spectators for their great comeback in the game.
Serbia has really displayed a great show of strength against Czech Republic in the second match. They have clearly signalled their intent to make it to the top. The Serbian team is currently enjoying top form and seem determined to crush everything in their
way.
The team captain Lucie Herbockova is keeping her players united. Likewise, the head coach Marijana Boricic is working on a master plan to lead his team to success. They have done very well so far and intend to maintain their leading role in the upcoming
matches.
