Serbia sweeps China to maintain winning streak in FIVB Men's World Olympic Qualifying Tournament
One of the matches that took place on June 5th marking the third day of the FIVB Men's World Olympic Qualifying Tournament was held between Serbia and China. The capital of Japan has been playing host to the competitions while the venue of the matches is
the Tokyo Metropolitan Gym.
The match between the two sides ended as the Serbians secured themselves three sets back to back at the following final set scores: 25-15, 25-13 and 25-21. The recent win has given the Serbians a winning streak of three matches in the tournament so far.
On the other hand, the Chinese have just managed to pull up one win while suffering two defeats.
The coach of the Serbian side, Igor Kolakovic, shared his joy at the performance of his team in the following words, “This was a very important game for us. We have won and now we have to think about Australia tomorrow.”
On the other hand, the Chinese coach, Zhou Jianan, expressed himself at the press conference in the following way, “We could not play well today. We are not in a good condition. We lost due to their pressure. We could not play our style. Our opponents served
very good. We could not get our serve reception to the centre.”
The highest points scored in the match were from the Serbian player Milos Nikic who tallied a total of 13 points. Nikic was helped by his team mates Nikola Kovacevic and Marko Podrascanin, each of whom added 11 points each. On the other hand, the top scorer
from the Chinese squad was Zhang Chen who kept the pressure on his opponents by contributing 12 points.
The first set started with a Serbian lead at 6-2 that stretched till the first technical time out at 8-3. The Serbians kept a comfortable distance from the Chinese all through till the end at 25-15. The second set followed the same pattern as its predecessor
with Serbia taking the lead at 5-1 and not letting go of the advantage all the way till the final point that brought them the second set as well at 25-13.
The Chinese stepped up their game in the third set and put in a commendable effort put the Serbians were not willing to extend the match till a fourth set as they secured a win at 25-21.
