Serbia sweeps Japan at FIVB World Cup - Volleyball news
The Serbians took on the Japanese women’s national volleyball team on November 11 in Sapporo, Japan, as part of the FIVB World Cup that is being held in Japan. It did not take long for the match to reach its close as the European champions were able to make
a clean sweep over the host team and bag themselves a win.
The first set of the match started off with both teams neck to neck with each other throughout the frame but as it reached its final stages, the Serbians were able to push themselves forwards and get a win. The second set of the match was competitive till
the middle stages but the Serbians managed to take sway and head off to another win. The loss of the first two sets triggered the host team into an increased amount of action but the effort was not enough to stop the Serbians from the third set and sealing
the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21.
The coach of the Serbian team, Zoran Terzic, made the following comments at the press conference after the match reached its close: “First of all about today’s game, I’m really happy we continued to play well; we are happy each time we beat Japan, especially
in Japan. These are special games for us; a special atmosphere. It’s a very good feeling when we win against Japan. I would like to congratulate our team.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Japanese squad, Masayoshi Manabe, shared his feelings in the following manner: “At the meeting before the game, I told the team it was important to try to win a ticket to the Olympics. We practiced service reception, but
their serve was strong and we couldn’t manage it well.”
The first set of the match reached a tie at 11-11 as the game remained close for the most part but eventually the Serbians were able to dominate and take the opening set at 25-22. The second set saw the Serbians take the lead early on and extend it to 12-5.
The Japanese could not overcome their opponents as the Serbians continued on their forward march and bagged the set at 25-20. The third set of the match remained close at 17-15 with Serbia leading but Japan could not hold the Serbs at bay and lost the third
set 21-25.
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match was the Serbian Milena Rasic who kept the pressure on the Japanese by tallying a total of 17 points for her team. On the other hand, the Japanese player that was the top scorer on their
team was Saori Kimura with a total of 14 points.
