Serbia sweeps Puerto Rico in a FIVB Volleyball Girls’ Youth World Championship match
Serbia and Puerto Rico competed against each other on 14th August at the Baskent Hall in Ankara, Turkey.
Both the teams were part of the Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Girls' Youth World Championship. What followed was a match in which the Serbians were able to make a clean sweep of the Puerto Ricans squad.
The first set of the match was tough with no one sure where the tables would turn until the very end of the set. However, the Serbians were able to assert themselves in the end and win the opening set of the game. The second set saw a complete turnaround
of the Puerto Rican team as they were completely smothered by their counter parts. However, Puerto Rico stepped up their play in the third set but the effort came in too late as they could not stop the Serbians from sealing the deal at the following final
set scores:  25-13, 25-8 and 25-21.
The coach of the Serbian team, Milan Grsic, made the following comments at the press conference after the match, “We are very happy. We won two matches in this difficult group. We had a good mentality and we wish to go on with the final. Today we played
with high level of concentration.”
On the other hand, the Puerto Rican coach Eric Gonzales shared his feelings by stating the following, “I congratulate Serbia. It's an honour to play against them. We had high expectations for today's match. We practiced in the morning for this match. Our
team is emotional, sometimes their emotions go down. I think my players did their best. We had problems with our passes, while Serbia serves very well. Today we could not establish a good game. We could not complete what we were planning to do.”
The start of the first set saw the Serbians coming out strong and the Puerto Ricans matching the skill of their opponents. The Serbians were leading at the first technical time out at 8-5 and they were still leading at the second technical time out. Puerto
Rico could not take the lead and saw their opponents off to a 25-13 win.
The second set started off with a Serbian lead at 8-1 which they kept on extending all the way till the end. Puerto Rico did not provide any challenge to their opponents and lost the set at 25-8.
The third set saw a tie at 3-3 and then later on at 17-17. However, the Serbians prevailed in sealing the deal on the match and taking it at 25-21.
The Serbians have been able to tally a record of 2-1 with their recent win while the Puerto Ricans have not won a single match yet but have suffered three losses.
