Serbia wins by 3-1 over Romania in pool play of 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Volleyball
A Pool A match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women was hosted in the Serbian city of Subotica where the home team competed with their rivals from Romania.
The match between the two sides took place on June 3rd, Sunday at the “Dudova Suma” sports hall and ended in a victory for the home team by 3-1.
The Serbian squad was able to hand out a defeat to their opponents at the final set scores of 27-25, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-15 in a total of 104 minutes during which 2,900 fans kept cheering for their team. Despite the fact that the Romanians were playing
against raised odds of being in the home ground of their rivals, they put up a good show in the opening frame.
However, the spirit of the Romanians fizzled out in the second set as the home team took control and was able to secure the frame by a significant margin. Despite the loss of the first two sets, the Romanians came back to secure the third frame. Despite
the effort, the fourth set slid in the hands of the Serbians comfortably.
The captain of the Serbian side, Milena Rasic, shared her views at the press conference in the following words, “We underestimated the Romanian players and this did cost us a set. It was not a good game from our side as we made many mistakes but we were
lucky enough to claim the victory.”
While the Romanian captain, Nneka Onyejekwe, expressed herself by giving the following statements, “We did not have any special expectation from this game, so we decided to go and fight to make their task as difficult as possible. Our main goal was to play
good and I think we succeeded in this. We are improving match after match and hope we can maintain that positive trend.”
The home team player Ana Bjelica was able to land herself the title of the top scorer by putting up 18 points in all while two Romanian players, Daiana Muresan and Denisa Rogojinaru, scored the most points for their team at 15 each.
