Serbia wins gold medal of Men’s water polo – 2011 World University Games, China
Serbia won the gold medal of the Men’s water polo final, by winning the final from Russia at the 2011 World University Games, on August 23, in China. Serbia conquered the title of the event, by winning the final with a score of 11 goals in contrast to the
Russian effort of eight goals.
Serbia remained inevitably strong for the gold medal throughout the match. In the first quarter of the match, Serbia scored two goals against the single goal of the Russian water polo squad. The next quarter was dominated by the Russian team, which scored
three goals, while Serbia was only able to score two goals. After the completion of the second quarter, both teams were at the same level, as they both scored four goals each.
Interestingly, the tables turned in the third quarter of the event, where the Serbian athletes scored five goals and the Russians failed to throw the ball in their opponents' goal post. Subsequently, in the last quarter of the event, Serbian scored two goals
once again, while Russia scored four goals but their dominating effort in the final quarter was not enough to bring them on the top. With their eight goals in the respective event, Russian won the silver medal of the water polo match.
Meanwhile, Macedonia and USA competed with each other for the bronze medal of the water polo discipline, where Macedonia earned a lead of three goals over USA and achieved the bronze medal, by scoring ten goals. Team USA, which scored seven goals in the
competition, was ranked as the fourth best team of the water polo tournament.
Macedonia scored four goals against the only goal of USA in the first quarter. In the second round, they extended their lead by scoring three goals as compared to the effort of two goals by USA's squad. In the third round, both teams scored one goal against
each other, while Macedonia netted two goals against the three goals of USA in the fourth quarter.
Furthermore, the first three teams of the event were invited on the podium after the completion of the session.
