Serbian Davis Cup coach confident about the upcoming final in Belgrade
The coach of the Davis Cup team of Serbia, Bogdan Obradovic, poised to play a historic final versus France said their player’s friendship and team spirit will also contribute a great deal in performing well. The Serbian side will be led by the world number
three Novak Djokovic.
A final win would be a first one for the Serbian team in the history of the Davis Cup tennis tournament.
"Djokovic is important as he is not only the leader of the team, but he has also opened the eyes of the other players that Serbs can do well in individual sports. The friendship within the team is surely the second element that makes it strong. I think the
good atmosphere, the energy and the eagerness within the team will lead us to victory in the final," the coach reflected.
Obradovic is counting on the friendship between Novak, Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki, all players in age, and the older doubles expert Nenad Zimonjic, who is heavily respected, to pull the side through.
He also waved away any speculations regarding the fitness level of Novak, who will be coming off a lengthy and punishing year which saw the Serbian fall in straight sets to Roger Federer in the semi-final round of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals last
week in London.
The coach while commenting on his hectic season said that there is no doubt about the fact that he will be tired however all of that is part of playing sports at the highest level and he knows that. Djokovic is still extremely motivated and is looking forward
to represent its country in the final of this year’s Davis Cup.
Obradovic while talking to the media about the Davis Cup matches further added that Novak will have to lead his country from the front and play his clashes with immense intensity and class. The right hander has to find that last atom of power and provide
that extra push required to the rest of the contenders.
The final will be played in Belgrade next weekend where the Serbian Tennis Federation has already done all the preparations. As far as Serbia is concerned, the significance of this clash is immeasurable, without even considering the fact that it is the greatest
success of the Serbian tennis side up to date. Moreover, it will also be the biggest sporting competition of the last decade in Serbia.
The former pro-player and ex-Davis Cup coach while throwing light on the preparations of the final battle said that the Federation has done its utmost to ensure the final will go off without any hurdle.
"The crowd in Belgrade has shown on various occasions that they know their tennis, that they respect the contenders however also passionately support their side. This crowd will applaud for an adversary when they deserve it," he declared.
Any concerns over the recent incidents with Serbian football hooligans who back in October provoked violent riots in Belgrade during a g*y pride march and few days later caused a Euro 2012 qualifying clash to be called off in Italy, were strongly dismissed
by the Federation as well as the coach.
Coach Obradovic said that the security concerns were perhaps greater when the Serbian side met the United States of America in March earlier this season.
In Serbia, Washington is not very famous as a result of its leading role in the NATO bombing back in 1999 with view of forcing the Serb troops out of Kosovo.
