Serbian Girls’ Youth National Teams making waves – Volleyball news
The wonderful Girls’ Youth National Volleyball Team of Serbia is always on a go.
Once again, they staged a stellar performance and stole the show, while playing in Ankara, Turkey. Serbia was featured against Slovenia in the fourth match of the final round of 2011 CEV Girls’ Youth European Championship on Wednesday, April 4, 2011.
The Serbs posted 3:2 (23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12, 15-8) victory over opponents and firmly held the top spot in ranking of Pool II. The Serbian team has appeared in four matches so far and they have maintained a perfect flow of success.
The head coach of the Serbian team, Marijana Boricic has done an amazing in keeping his team on the winning track. Before travelling to Ankara, the team members got a very little time for training. They spent only 7 days together but yet turned many heads
around with their spectacular performance.
The Slovenia girls kicked things off in the Wednesday’s match with long jump serves. They put early points on the board, whereas Serbian side was yet to wait for their first point. Nika Blagne, the captain of Slovenian side actively participated in poking
the ball in opponents’ half.
The first technical timeout of the match saw Serbia trailing behind Slovenia with a margin of three points (5-8). Anyhow, Serb strikers managed to steal some points from the Slovaks and tied the score at 17-all. However, the resilient rivals regain dominance
and secured first set by polling 25-23.
Serbia was all fired-up at the loss of opening set. They hit back angrily and registered quick points. The heavy strike of volleys helped them built a lead of 6-2. The Slovenian defence expert dropped a few crucial points and situation became bitter for
them. The energy of Slovenian squad was almost damped.
Serbia took full advantage of the situation and kept an upper hand on the rivals. At the first technical timeout, Serbia had 4-point lead and they turned it into 16-10 at the next mandatory stop. Serbia maintained the same great tempo until the set-point
and claimed second set of the match.
The seesaw battle continued in the following set. Nika Blagn and Teja Kolbl once again put up an incredible show of volleyball. They made a splendid opening in the third set and cruised past Serbia with 8-3 lead.
On the other hand, Serbia responded in the same tone and played with a lot of mental strength. They managed to minimize the gap of points at the second mandatory stop. However, it was not Serbia’s turn to win the set. Slovenia sparked on the scene with 25-20
victory.
Serbian girls opened the fourth set with long court shots and led the game with better score. Slovenian blockers threw their hands in the air at almost every single shot but could hinder the performance of Serbian side. Fourth set came successful for Serbia,
while Slovenia suffered the set back. An interesting twist was created in fourth set as scoreboard showed the deadlock of 2-2.
The final set was the real test of skills and abilities of both teams. Serbs played in a great style and did not allow Slovenia to stay in the way of their victory. There were actually moments in the final set, where it seemed as if Slovenia would manage
to win. Somehow, Serbia remained remarkably consistent and won the fifth set by posting 15-8.
