Serbian national women’s volleyball team given reception by Head of State
A special reception was recently held in honour of the Serbian national women’s volleyball team by the Serbian Head of State, Boris Tadic. The celebration was done because the team had earned the gold medal in Eurovolley 2011.
The final of the championship was played on Sunday at the Pionir sports hall in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade.
Mr. Tadic appreciated his national team in the following words at the reception dinner: “I would like to thank all of you for representing our country in this Championship. We are all very grateful and proud of you. We thank you for everything you have done
for Volleyball, but also for our nation. Many thanks also to Jelena Nikolic who has been captaining this team since it was created 4 years ago, right before the European qualifiers for the World Championship where you won a bronze medal. A generation of young
players is emerging and this confirms that Mr. Boricic and our head coach Zoran Terzic have laid down very solid foundations for Volleyball in Serbia.”
Mr. Tadic also talked about the FIVB World Cup which is scheduled to take place in Japan, mentioning the importance of the tournament as it will be acting as the qualification round for the London 2012 Olympics.
Towards the end of his address, Mr. Tadic added that he was expecting a good performance from the team but not a gold medal. The fact that the Serbian women’s team has been able to bag a gold shows that the team is capable of a lot more and that all the
players as well as the coaching staff are working tirelessly in order to excel as a team.
After the Head of State had gave his comments, the captain of the Serbian team, Jelena Nikolic, thanked Mr. Tadic on behalf of the team, mentioning the positive effect the support of their fans had on the performance of the team throughout the tournament.
Accompanying the players and the coaches were prominent members of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia.
