Serbian team dominating 2011 CEV Girls’ Youth European Championship
The Serbian Girls’ Youth Volleyball Team has enjoyed a great limelight over the past three days. The Serbs rocked the podium of Baskent Sports Hall in Ankara, Turkey with their spectacular performance.
Serbia has been placed in the Pool II of the 2011 CEV Youth European Championship. Out of five other competitors in the group, Serbia has clinched success against Spain, Czech Republic and lately against Poland.
They are staying at the top slot of the Pool II ranking so far. In their last match, Serbia defeated Poland in straight sets. They posted 28-26, 25-23, and 25-17 in three respective sets and claimed victory. The match was played on Monday, May 2, while it
was witnessed by 350 spectators.
Poland had scored a victory against the home team on Sunday and it was a sort of competitive edge for them. On the other hand, Serbia had earned a strong spot by winning both of its matches in the previous two days. They were also regarded as the silver
medallist team of 2009 CEV Youth European Championship.
The early phase of the game was a close fight. The players of both teams had good energy and hit impressive shots. Poland was equipped with great player-line, who hit the mark with one-point lead at the first technical timeout (FTT).
Poland’s Aleksandra Wojcik was greatly praised for her prolific attack attempts. She added consecutive points in Poland’s score. On the other hand, Nevena Dzamic of Serbia resisted in full force and saved some crucial points with her extreme blocking over
the net. Italy lagged behind but remained at close difference from the opponents.
Polish ‘army’ kept an upper hand on the Serbian team and continued with success. Serbia was somehow not getting the right tone to dismantle the power of Polish girls. The hard work of Serbia paid off and finally they pushed Poles behind.
Binanka Busa of Serbia turned many heads around with her tactful shots. She played a vital role in putting her team in lead. Poland fought until the end but could not avoid the chances of defeat in opening set of the match.
The success in first set boosted the morale and confidence of Serbian players. The Serbs opened the next set with nice delivery of spikes. On contrary, the loss of opening set pushed Poland in the blue corner. They played under pressure and committed unforced
mistakes, which paved a way for Serbia to quickly raise their score.
Polish girls tried to bring some stability and avoided the frequent jerks of their hands. Eventually, they managed to add some points but still it was not enough to create a scare for strong Serbian squad. Serbs showed no mercy and further tightened the
screws of opponents. Second set also reached its end, while Poland was still in the cold waters. Serbia claimed second set with the final score of 25-23.
Serbia was in total control of the operations after two sets’ victory. They opened the third set with commanding serves and swiftly launched their power on the rival side. Poland was irresistible form and gave a way to Serbian dominance. The final word came
out when Serbia hit the finish line and claimed third set of the match without much difficulty. The Serb queens successfully accomplished their goal of maintaining a winning streak of three matches. They have bright prospects to make it to the final stage
of the championship.
