Serbian tennis player David Savic banned for life and fined $100,000 for match fixing – Tennis News
Match fixing is the new phenomena in world of sports. Previously, it was only associated to cricket but in recent times there has been rumors from Football and Tennis galleries about this jinx. The recent victim of the match fixing
conspiracy is the 658th ranked Tennis player David Savic. Savic received a life time ban and $100,000 fine for breaching the sport's international anti-corruption program on three separate occasions. The hearing of the case was conducted on 12th June
in London and it was made crystal clear that no details of the final decision would be made public.
Daniel Koellerer was the first tennis player to get a life time ban in May 2011 and Savic is now second on the list. The ban was introduced instantaneously and Savic had to withdraw from all competitions. Savic was guilty of manipulating
or attempting to manipulate the results of the match. He was convicted of contriving the match results on three separate occasions.
Savic was not the only one who is on the radar of anti-corruption team, there are five other players that were convicted of betting on several matches in the season of 2007-08. These players received bans that ranged from six to
nine weeks. Mathieu Montcourt is a famous French player who also received ban of two months in 2008 for being involved in similar activities.
Nikolay Davydenko, the Russian international, was also investigated by the anti-corruption team because of his doubtful activities in 2007. The doubts started bubbling up when ATP found a strange pattern in the betting on his match
against 87th ranked Martin Vassallo Arguello in 2007. The investigation process started in 2008. Davydenko was inquired on several grounds but eventually released of all charge because there was no sufficient evidence found against him.
Tennis is a sport that is madly followed all over the world. Fans invest money in tickets to see a pure sensational contest but events like this just take the flair of the game and demoralize them. Serbia has produced some magnificent
tennis master pieces. Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic are just two tennis sensations that belong to the suburbs of Serbia. Savic has just not ruined his own career but placed a black spot on Serbian tennis.
However, still appealing the ban, Savic denies all charges and continues to plead innocence. It is unlikely though that the charges against the Serbian will be overturned.
