http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 post 263 against Netherlands
Kenya posted a decent total against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 in a warm-up match of the 2011 ICC World Cup. Batting first in Colombo, they reached 263 runs courtesy an exceptional century from their opener Seren Waters.
Kenyan captain Jimmy Kamande won the toss and elected to bat first. Although there was some cloud cover over Colombo, the conditions were perfect for batting. Seren Waters and Alex Obanda opened the innings for Kenya. The start though, wasn’t promising as
Obanda lost his wicket early in the match. He scored 11 runs off 16 balls before getting out in the fifth over.
The first-drop, David Obuya then joined Waters at the crease and put together a 50-run partnership for their team. However, Obuya failed to capitalise on the start he got and was dismissed after scoring 20 runs off 35 balls. Veteran Kenyan batsman and former
captain Steve Tikolo failed to make an impression and lost his wicket after just adding eight runs to the total from five balls.
Kenya were struggling at 87 for the loss of three wickets when wicketkeeper batsman Maurice Ouma joined Waters at the crease. The pair took the team out of trouble with a 42-run stand but Ouma lost his wicket after scoring 20 runs. Rakep Patel joined Waters
with four wickets down for 29 runs. The pair rescued their team from trouble and constructed a brilliant century partnership for the fifth wicket. Patel got out in the final over of the match, but managed to score a brilliant 64 runs off 59 balls.
Waters played with responsibility and batted for the complete 50 overs. He ended up with an outstanding century, scoring an unbeaten 126 runs off 150 balls. His innings included twelve 4’s. Ryan ten Doeschate bowled well for his team and took two wickets
for 47 runs in his spell of 10 overs. He used his experience to full effect, as he has featured in Australian and English county cricket.
Bernard Loots was also impressive with his medium-pace bowling. The 31-year-old took one wicket for 20 runs in six overs. It will be a tough ask for Netherlands to chase down the total posted by Kenya. However, the wicket is in good condition and the chase
is possible.
