Could Serena go down in first round, for first time?

Her opponent in the opening round is rising player Kenepi, ranked 35, and not playing in either of the warm ups to Wimbledon, do you think Williams could go down? As a huge fan I hope not, but kind of get the feeling to the possibility. Your thoughts?

  1. Serena 6-2 6-2

  2. not on grass. kaia kinepi does not hit the ball flat enough on grass for her to do any damage on this surface. The grass definetely suits serena's game because she is such a marvelous ball striker and hits so flat off the ground. Kai Kinepi will have trouble even getting decent returns in play. serena: 6-2 6-1

  3. Serena could- but she won't. She is such a good player that she won't have much trouble in her first round.

  4. Even Serena is not as dominant as before but i doubt that she'll lost in the first round for the first time in her career.  Even she didn't play warm up event for Wimbledon but she has a record of getting good result even she had not played warm up tournament for preparation of Grand Slam.  Secondly,  grass is one of her favourite surface. She had good results in Wimbledon. I know Kenepi is a top 50 players and she had surprise result in RG but i think it still not enough to take out Serena in the first round. My prediction will be - she'll go through at least the first few round maybe 3rd or 4th round before she finally met some potential player that can beat her.

  5. There is always a chance for Serena to lose if she is not into the match, but she has never lost in the first round of a grand slam. For the most part, Serena has shown great presence in the first round.

I believe in her and I know that she will defeat Kanepi and be ready for the next round. I wouldn't worry to much about her.

  6. i hope not. for the beauty of the turnament.

Kanepi was surprising at Roland Garros,  but can she play as good on GRASS ?

Serena is verry dangerous on this surface. On RG she lost to srebotnik, but clay is not her favorite surface. Her playng style is based on offensive Powerfoul shots and return of serve. She's not that good on clay because she doesen't have a good footwork for that surface and that affects she's groundstrokes

  7. I doubt Serena will lose in the first round, but you never know.  I certainly didn't expect her to lose in the 3rd round of the French Open either, and she did.  But Serena never plays the grass court warm-up events, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that as far as her preparation is concerned.  The question will be whether or not she's 100% healthy, as it always is with her.

  8. I doubt it. This is one of Serena's best surfaces and Kanepi's worst. Kanepi doesn't have the weapons in her arsenal to pull off this upset. They played in Miami a few months ago where Serena won 6-3 6-3. Serena should ease through to the second round.

  9. hope not.-

  10. Kanepi is one of the tour's most dangerous players floating around the non-seeded and last seeded positions.  She is still growing in her tennis and we have yet to see what she can really do.  As for Kanepi beating Williams, maybe so, maybe it might not even be her.  It could be Williams losing to someone before the 3rd or 4th round.  I hope so.

Anyways, the Williamses are not really strong factors on the tour for years because the tour has grown and can handle any game.  Some are just not figured out in the beginning but eventually are. There is no more room for errors, and the sisters make too many errors. Besides the Williams sisters being proof that real, natural effortless talent always comes through and lasts long, tennis needs to get back on track with real champions and figures who are professional, naturally talented, dedicated and all-around and are all about the game and giving back.  We are getting close to those days again.

  11. Interesting scenario and yes Kenepi is definitely on the rise, however I feel strongly that Serena will be able to pull through this one in straight sets. It could be a challenge for her though, should she not arrive in top form, but she will get through it.

  12. the williams sisters are hasbeens and yesteryear's news I don't see them going past 3rd round in any slam, there are just too many good young players coming up, and what those 2 bozos are doing in the top 10 defies logic, this could be their last year, they are just hanging around for a paycheck of any amount//
