Born on September 26, 1981 in the city of Saginaw, Serena Jameka Williams is a professional tennis player from America. The twenty-eight year old Williams is currently the top ranked tennis ace in the world by the Women tennis Association. She has been ranked
as the world number one player on five different occasions so far in her career. The right handed American became the top ranked tennis contender for the very first time back in 2002 during the month of July.
As far as her performances this season are concerned, the professional tennis star from the United States of America contested at the Medibank International Sydney as her first tournament of the year. She dismissed her French foe, Aravane Rezai in the semi
final round in a total of three sets. The final match score was 3–6, 7–5, 6–4. In the title battle, Williams, however, was taken down by the defending winner, Elena Dementieva in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6–3, 6–2.
At the Australian Open tennis tournament, Serena made her way into the singles quarters without even dropping a service game or set, where she got the better of Victoria Azarenka in a total of three sets. In the semis, the American dismissed the sixteen
seeded, Li Na in straight sets and reached her fifth final at Aussie. In the title battle, the twenty-eight year old Williams toppled the 2004 U.S Open winner, Justine Henin in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6–4, 3–6, 6–2.
Williams next played at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, held in Rome where she couldn’t surpass the semi final round as the American was outlasted by Jelena Jankovic in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4–6, 6–3, 7–6(5).
At the Mutua Madrilena Madrid Open tennis competition, the world number one Serena Williams after receiving a first round bye defeated Vera Dushevina in the lengthiest match of her professional career. The match concluded after a time period of three hours
and twenty-six minutes. Williams committed a total of seventy-three unforced errors while overpowering Vera. The final match score was 6–7(2), 7–6(5), 7–6(5). In her third round match, the American was broken by her sixteenth seeded foe, Nadia Petrova in a
total of three sets. The final match score was 4–6, 6–2, 6–3.
The Saginaw born, moved through the opening three rounds of the French Open tennis tournament easily and then outclassed Shahar Pe'er in round four before falling to the Australian tennis ace, Samantha Stosur in the quarters. The final match score was 6–3,
6–7(2), 8–6. Serena committed a total of forty-six unforced errors. It was the very first major that the American had not triumphed or been fallen at the hands of ultimate winner since the French Open back in 2008. Williams has failed to surpass the quarters
at this competition since 2003. She also contested in the doubles matches along with her sister Venus Williams as the top seeded duo. They got the better of Katarina Srebotnik and Kveta Peschke in the final to capture their fourth major doubles trophy in a

Her next scheduled championship was 2010 Wimbledon, where she made it into the finals after overpowering players like, Michelle Larcher De Brito, Anna Chakvetadze, Dominika Cibulkova, Maria Sharapova, Li Na as well as Petra Kvitova. In the final, the American

After winning her grass court Grand Slam title, Serena Williams injured her right foot on a broken glass in a hotel and as a result couldn’t participate in the year’s final major. However, according to the recent reports, the American tennis sensation is
once again back on the practice court and looking forward to make a comeback on the tour.
