Serena Williams: French Open first round loss taught a lot of new things – Tennis News
World number six, Serena Williams, lost in the opening round of the Roland Garros French Open; shocked everyone even herself. However, she promises to her fans that she will learn a lot from this defeat and comeback as a strong
player trying to diminish all her errors in her game play.
Former world number one from America lost to the 111th ranked French professional, Virginie Razzano, who battled for more than three hours to bring one of the biggest shocking news from the clay court of Paris, France.
Williams told the reporters, “I've just got to go back and just figure out what I did wrong and not do it again, learn from it. I think that's the best thing I can do." She left the arena in tears knowing that she will not come
back to the courts at least for a year.
No one expected this result; at least not in the first round but upsets do happen. It was probably the biggest upset of the Williams life after the one she faced in the final of the Wimbledon 2004 when she lost to the 17-year-old
Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova.
Williams said, “I'm not happy, by any means. But I just always think things could be worse." It’s obvious that the American superstar is not happy at all but she can do nothing about it. It’s done and dusted. She is planning to
conduct extra training sessions to keep her morale higher and apologized to her fans who were left dejected at her early exit from the year’s second Grand Slam tournament.
It was not a straight forward win for the French as well. She bounced back a set down and won a very tight tie-breaker in the second; kept Williams chasing her in the third set after breaking her serve and sustained the lead until
the end. Matches like these are played once in a lifetime especially for players like Razzano who have not been able to prove their worth at the professional circuit and has always remained the underdog.
There is a lot to learn from every defeat because it brings something new as always. Williams will definitely take her lessons from the loss and try to improve her game. Olympics are around the corner and she would never want this
loss to take over. She wants to forget it and concentrate on the upcoming grass court season starting in June.
