Serena Williams and Andrea Hlavackova will face off in the fourth round – Tennis News
Former US Open title bearer, Serena Williams, will contest against the Czech tennis professional Andrea Hlavackova in the fourth round of the Grand Slam event at Flushing Meadows Park in New York, United States. Both the
players will face each other for the first time in their tennis careers and Williams being the hot favourite contender, has a fair chance to annihilate her in the forth coming battle on Monday.
26-year-old Hlavackova qualified for the fourth round after a tough battle with the 14th seeded, Maria Kirilenko, on Saturday afternoon. The Czech slowly picked momentum in her game plan and gave her
opponent 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 shocking upset. She is very excited to meet Williams for the first time.
Hlavackova in an interview told the media, “It's a great feeling to win a big match like this. I cannot believe it. This is the reason why I play, to be in the last 16 in a Grand Slam. They are strong athletes. Their serves
are big, their strokes are huge, they have a lot of power, and if you want to pass them somehow they are everywhere - lob no way, to the side they are there. If you see them across the net, you really have big respect for both of them. But I've never played
Serena in singles so that's a different thing.”
Williams has tremendously shown improvement ever since the Wimbledon Championships this season, when gave a shocking defeat to the world number two, Agnieszka Radwanska in the final. Next at the London Olympics, the American
veteran gave straight sets upset to the third seeded Maria Sharapova to win gold at the coveted event.
The 30-year-old is desperate to clinch the championship title at US Open for the fourth time in her illustrious career. She exhibited an excellent game plan with high speed serves and back hands in the entire tournament.
In the third round, Williams disposed the Russian, Ekaterina Makarova, pouncing eight aces against her rival, with a high first serve percentage of 86.
The Czech professional will be facing a tough challenge against the number one American. Williams aims to top the world chart once again and age is no barrier for her. On the other hand, Hlavackova need to adopt a more proactive
approach on the court, which will be the only way possible she can surprise her critics. Nevertheless, she has shown an unexpected performance since the start of the Grand Slam tournament and she might have a slight chance to bombshell the American. Williams
is 14-times Grand Slam winner and will never miss a single opportunity to slaughter her rival on Monday afternoon.
