Serena Williams crushes Sara Errani in the semi-finals – US Open 2012
Seeded fourth in the tournament, Serena Williams prevailed over the Italian number one, Sara Errani, in the semi-finals of the US Open Championships at Flushing Meadows in New York, United States. She stamped
her authority over the game by settling the final score line at 6-1, 6-2, in her favour.
Williams in a post match interview said, “Last year I didn't get to bed until after 4 o'clock, and then I had to come back and play again. It went pretty fast. This year I have more experience. But also, last
year I honestly thought getting to the final was awesome after being in the hospital five months prior. For me that was unbelievable. It's probably the only Grand Slam final loss I wasn't super disappointed about - I was disappointed, but not as down as I
would have normally been. This year I'm more confident, playing more matches and winning.”
The 30-year-old showed her remarkable dexterity since the beginning and out gunned her rival ever since the moment she stepped on her home ground. Fortunately, she drew the first blood, broke the Italian’s serve
in the second and fourth game respectively of the starter, and raced away to a 5-love lead. Williams progressed forward and wrapped up the set at 6-1.
Ranked 10th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Errani was unable to sustain her initial serve and this gave the American tennis professional an opportunity to capitalize and she clinched a lead
in the decider by 2-love. Williams walked off the entire set without facing any serious challenge. She broke her rival’s serve in the fifth game, marking a 4-1 score line. The 25-year-old Italian slowly picked pace as the match moved towards the end but the
American professional didn’t get lose at all and closed the match with her 6-2 victory.
The local veteran dominated the game as she bombarded her rival with nine aces and she manifested a decent first serve accuracy of 65 percent. She converted 24 of 26 first serve points, along with four of 10
break points. On the other hand, Errani had a good first serve precision of 82 per cent but was unable to pocket even a single serve break in the entire match.
Williams dominates the head-to-head series against the Italian by 4-0. Next challenge for the former world number one is the top seed Victoria Azarenka in the final match of the tournament.
