Serena Williams gunning to take on Victoria Azarenka in the semi-final of Wimbledon – Tennis News
Former world number one, Serena Williams, rocked the show on the eve of Tuesday when she drove away the defending champion from Czech Republic, Petra Kvitova, in the quarter-final of the Wimbledon Championships in straight sets.
It was a remarkable achievement for the American tennis queen who faced an early first round exit at the French Open in May.
Williams smashed in 13 aces against the fourth seed Czech and they proved enough for the American to book a date with the former world number one, Victoria Azarenka, who will again top the rankings if she manages to grab the title
at All England Lawn Tennis Club.
However, Azarenka will have to go through the six-time Wimbledon Champion Williams, before confirming a final showdown with one of the winners of the other semi-final that will take place between the eighth seed German, Angelique
Kerber, and the third seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska.
Williams is gunning up for the semi-final battle with the most stunning players of the season. The Belarusian was almost invincible having maintained a 24-0 unbeaten streak at the start. So, it will not be an easy task for the
former Wimbledon Champion, Williams, to outfox the fellow semi-finalist. However, she will look to defy all the odds and outclass the screaming Azarenka at the Centre Court on Thursday.
Talking to the media representatives, Williams said, “It's going to be another match where I have absolutely nothing to lose. I can just go out there and enjoy myself and have fun. It's really kind of cool to have trophies in your
house that are so meaningful, that you grow up dreaming about it but never really knowing you can make it. You can't play a defending Wimbledon champion or grand slam champion and not elevate your game. I had to weed out the riffraff and just get serious."
It will be a classic battle between the 22-year-old Belarusian and 30-year-old experienced American superstar. Both players will look to find loopholes and Williams will smash in few more aces for sure to dismantle the confidence
