Serena Williams joins sister Venus Williams on the sidelines; out of tennis until 2012 – Tennis News
Michigan Tennis superstar, Serena Williams, is out of action until 2012. On October 4th, Serena’s manager, Jill Smoller, stated that Serena will not take part in any of the upcoming tournaments until 2012 because of
an injury that has yet to be disclosed.
Serena withdrew herself from two main Grand Slam tournaments this year before returning to the arena at Wimbledon. She couldn’t perform in Wimbledon due to severe illness and injury and was knocked-out in fourth round at the hands
of French tennis star, Marion Bartoli.
American tennis sensation didn’t feature in the obligatory tournaments in Beijing and Tokyo this year due to mysterious medical issues. Her absence from these tournaments proved her ineligible to participate in Istanbul and Bali’s
season-ending Championships. She will not be seen in other four tournaments including Linz, Osaka, Moscow and Luxembourg this season. It seems that the loss to Samantha Stosur in the 2011 US Open two weeks ago has hit the former world number one hard.
She will also be fined for not participating in all these tournaments and will definitely slip few ranks. It is predicted by the analysts that she will be amongst top 20 players but doesn’t own any points from this year to defend
her rank that will be a major blow to her rankings at the start of the next season.
United States Tennis Association announced that Serena William and her sister Venus William had agreed to return in action in Belarus on February 4-5, 2012 at Worcester, Massachusetts in Fed Cup. Officials of Fed Cup had scheduled
matches for Serena who would feature in this tournament after 5 years. But this is still not good enough for Serena to be eligible for 2012 Olympics because it doesn’t fulfill the stipulation of playing at least twice in two consecutive calendar years.
Serena has her fan following across the globe. This news was really heart-breaking for her fans as they have already seen a very disappointing run this year from the World No. 14. Their hopes to see her back in action soon were
shattered utterly. Her ineligibility to qualify for 2012 Olympics added to the grievances of her fans and it looks like that the career of 23 times Grand Slam winner is on the verge of decline.
Injury is the worst night-mare for any player as it restricts his capabilities and limits his talent. Serena is inflicted with the problem of iterative injury occurrence and she can’t regain her full form until she completely gets
rid of her injury. Therefore, she needs rest but in the mean time tennis world will be deprived of immensely talented and winner of insurmountable odds until 2012.
