Serena Williams looks to lift trophy for the seventh time at Wimbledon – Tennis News
Former world number one, Serena Williams, believes she can pull up a major landmark in her career by beating the third seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the final of the Wimbledon Championships on Saturday. She already has six
Wimbledon titles under her belt and Radwanska is aiming for her first Grand Slam victory. So, the difference of experience definitely favours the scenario for Williams, especially seeing the American smack 24 aces against the former world number one, Victoria
Azarenka, in the semi-final clash to tear her apart in straight sets.
Commenting about her fellow finalist, Williams said, "Radwanska has been playing well. She's been consistent this year, more consistent than I have. That tells me I really need to go out there and be ready to hit a lot of shots
and be ready to play hard. She has great hands and she does everything so well. If I come out flat, I won't win."
Williams definitely rests with the massive advantage of experience and power but Radwanska also possesses some breathtaking backhand returns that are virtually unplayable on most of the occurrences. So, it will definitely be a
world class match-up to say the least and the closing ceremony will witness a true champion in every aspect. Williams is the first 30-year-old contestant to play the final of the Wimbledon since 1999. Steffi Graf was the former player to hold that record.
Williams stated, “I think if I try to do too much overpowering I can be led to a lot of errors, so I don't know about that. I think my biggest challenge is Agnieszka is really good at everything. She has unbelievable hands.”
Everyone knows that it is going to be a very challenging task for the American number one to lift the Wimbledon title for the seventh time in her professional career and that too at the age of 30. Radwanska is ranked third in the
world whilst the American is ranked sixth. So, considering the rankings, Radwanska is the favourite; however, everyone knows the capabilities of the former world number one from America. On her day, Williams can devastate any player just like she aced her
way against the Belarusian superstar to cruise into the finals of the championship.
It is high time for big guns from the past to step up. Roger Federer, the Swiss Maestro, is leading the show in the men’s category and Williams is doing it for women. This tournament might be for oldies that are still gold on the
courts of Wimbledon.
