Serena Williams sails past Urszula Radwanska in round two – London Olympics 2012
Former world number one, Serena Williams, had no difficulty at all in ousting the 45th ranked Pole starlet, Urszula Radwanska, in the second round of the London Olympics at Wimbledon.
Easy straight sets 6-2, 6-3 victory helped the fourth seed American to inch a step closer to her career long dream of winning a singles gold medal at Olympics. She is on a 13 match unbeaten streak at the moment that started from
the first round of the Wimbledon Championships in June.
Williams expressed her feelings at the end of the match in the following fashion, “It was tough conditions today, a little windy, but I'm glad I was able to pull through. I think I played okay. I was excited to be out there, to
play solid. I don't think I played badly. Obviously I have to believe I can play better, but for the early rounds, I think I'm playing pretty well."
Williams commenced the match in emphatic fashion with a breakthrough in the fourth game to lead the scores 3-1. She coupled the lead with a serve hold and made it 4-1 in the beginning of the first set.
Nothing was going right for the Pole starlet who failed to win a single point on the serves of her rival. She was pressurized in the eighth game of the match that resulted in another breakthrough for the American fourth seed and
more importantly ended the first phase of the misery for the 21-year-old Pole.
Both players held their serves in the first five games of the second set before swapping breakpoints to push the scores at 4-3. However, another breakthrough for Williams in the following game gave her a lead of 5-3 and she rounded
off the proceedings with a thumping serve hold.
Serena Williams will be up against the last time bronze medallist, Vera Zvonareva of Russia, in her pre-quarters clash. Talking about that encounter, the American stated, “It's a good match-up for us both; a Wimbledon final rematch.
She's playing so well and doing everything great, so it's not going to be easy. It's going to be tough for me to play against someone so tough so soon."
Williams hold an emphatic 6-3 head-to-head lead against the Russian superstar but the last time they met, it was Zvonareva who edged out and it was in the last year during the second round of AEGON International at Eastbourne.
