Former world number one, Serena Williams, is cruising at the US Open Championships in New York; smashing the 82nd ranked Czech star, Andrea Hlavackova, in straight sets 6-0, 6-0; a double bagel that clearly shows her
quality of play at the hard courts of Flushing Meadows.
However, the fourth seed American is clearly not satisfied by her performance as she stated, "I honestly don’t think I started out strong in the tournament. I feel like I’m getting more comfortable with the court and comfortable
with the conditions. I’m getting back to more my game, which is good."
It seems like she is eyeing a record of smashing a player to double golden set; one was smashed by the Kazakh superstar, Yaroslava Shvedova, when she dismissed the 10th ranked Italian, Sara Errani, without losing a single
point in the first set of their contest.
Shvedova is the only player who has the record of golden set but the American powerhouse is eyeing two of them in a single match because if she isn’t satisfied by her performance now, she will never be satisfied.
Williams has just lost two of her last 40 odd matches and her triumphs include a Grand Slam title at Wimbledon coupled with a Stanford title defence and the gold medal conquest at the grass courts of London. She is definitely on
course to win the US Open as well and the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic, will be her next victim in the quarter-finals.
Some more comments from the American include, “It says I’m focused, but it just says that I’m just trying like everyone else to be consistent and to do the best that I can. I feel good. I feel like I’m playing better. I felt like
I hit better today than I had in my other matches. I wanted to do better. As each match goes on I want to try to get better.”
There is no doubt that the American superstar is enjoying one of her best forms other career but being too overwhelming with the milestones can lead to hazardous outcomes. Maybe Ivanovic can construct something and pull up an upset
on Wednesday.
