Serena Williams still suffering from a major jet-lag – Tennis News
Former world number one, Serena Williams, continues to devastate her rivals in California after winning the fifth Wimbledon Championships at All England Lawn Tennis Club, earlier this month. She is literally unstoppable and smashing
aces at her will; looks like the old touch of Williams is back in her game style and that too at the age of 30; simply amazing.
On the eve of Friday, she dispatched another contender in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to reach the semi-final stage of Bank of the West Classic tournament, contested in Stanford, USA. Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa was her recent
victim. She only managed to win four games in the entire quarter-final battle that witnessed a thumping bagel as well. Scheepers was not an underdog but a sixth seed contestant in the tournament but she was of no match to the top seeded American who is ranked
fourth in the world.
Williams always have something interesting to say and that is what she said in a post-match interview, “I still have major jet-lag. I’ve been up a long time. I’m tired now and ready to sleep, but it felt good to be out here — and
especially good to win. I didn’t want to take anything, so I was wide awake just like as if I was in Europe. I started the match slow and sluggish, but I expected that. I just stayed in there until I began moving better. I told myself just to get through it,
win quickly. I’m a fighter, I just click — the mentality just kicks in.”
Ironically, players practice one night before the match but the big gun from America watched the whole series of the famous Television Show, Desperate Housewives. She always comes up with something cheesy and everyone is waiting
to see her performance against the Romanian queen, Sorana Cirstea, who is having a breakthrough tournament of the season reaching the semis at the expense of superior ranked player like Dominika Cibulkova. It will be a majestic upset if she is able to beat
the reigning Wimbledon Champion at her home soil in the tournament where she is already the defending champion as well.
