Serena Williams trounces Barbora Zahlavova Strycova to reach the third round– Australian Open 2012
Former world number one, Serena Williams, bamboozled the Czech participant, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 during the round two contest of the Australian Open. It was the first encounter between the two players;
the American’s comeback to the tennis circuit seems to be one of the most memorable one considering her sublime run of form and commanding display at the courts. It might be her chance to gobble up yet another Slam title to her tally.
The American tennis ace started the proceedings with a successful serve break and earned a crucial breakthrough in the second set to take 2-0 lead. Two consecutive serve breaks in the upcoming four games of the set earned her
the lead of one set with her opponent facing the worst scenes as far as the score line was concerned; bagel to her name. Williams was rocking with her rocket paced serves and crowd was behind the 30-years-old yet daring performer of the world.
Second set started in the same fashion as the first one. The Czech composed herself during the set break and decided to have an all round onslaught because the defensive strategy backfired at her badly in the first set. Strycova
held her first serve and pushed the scores to 1-1. Williams was still good enough for her opponent and pounded on her with big forehand drives down the line; broke Strycova’s serve in the fourth game and took the lead.
The youngster showed great aggression to fight back the dominating Williams; she was rewarded with a break in the ninth game that allowed her to level the scores by holding her serve in the next but the big forehand winners down
the line from Williams halted her comeback and finished her Australian Open campaign. Williams moves into the round three of the tournament.
Williams slammed her opponent down to all corners of the court; the score line itself proves it. The luck is working in favour of the American and she is knocking-out her opponents with ease. It will be interesting to see her performance
against top notch players like Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki or Ana Ivanovic; all these women are in emphatic form and look to challenge for the majestic Slam title, with reigning world number one gruelling for her first major championship title.
