Serena Williams undergoes a big toes surgery in Florida – Tennis News
Another blow for the former world number one, Serena Williams, in the form of a big toes surgery has raised questions about her ability to continue the momentum into the following season. She underwent a surgery and abruptly withdrew
from the exhibition event that was scheduled to be played in Thailand against the reigning world number one, Victoria Azarenka, at the end of December.
The medical report generated after the surgery by the doctor of Williams, Jeffrey Rockefeller (Florida podiatrist), stated, “Williams was treated for a chronic foot disorder which involved minor procedures on both of her great
toes.” It means she will have to take care of her New Year schedule as well and cut down the number of tours to ensure full recovery.
Aged 31, Williams registered an emphatic season of her career after a troublesome time at the courts in 2011. She started her big breakthrough at the Wimbledon Championships by winning  the Grand Slam trophy at the All England
Lawn Tennis Club. She returned to the same arena for the London Olympics in August and captured Gold Medals in both singles as well as doubles category. She continued to demolish her opponents at the US Open in New York and lifted her 15th Grand
Slam title at the closing ceremony of the tournament.
She qualified for the Women Tennis Association year-end Championships in Istanbul; registered an unbeaten run at the Round Rubbers and carried the same momentum to the final where she outfoxed the second ranked 25-year-old Maria
Sharapova to gather the seventh title of the year. She has recorded 58 victories and just six losses in 2012. Out of those six losses, three of them have been due to injury-forced withdrawals. Hence, only three players have been able to beat the in-form Williams
in the entire season which is itself an achievement.
Williams didn’t take part in any of the events after her final loss at the US Open 2011 until the start of the New Year. She missed the latter half of the season last year due to undisclosed medical issues. Injuries have troubled
her a lot lately and the same fear is back again with the latest big toes surgery.
