Serena Williams unleashed her true colours to capture gold at Olympics (Part Two) – Tennis Special
The American number one, Serena Williams, showed top notch performance throughout the tournament capture gold at the London Olympics 2012 taking place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She breezed past her rival
without losing a set, ultimately secured a place in the final eight at Games of x*x Olympiad.
Williams, who captured her fifth Wimbledon title at this venue a month ago, kept momentum rolling in her quarter-final clash against her fellow former world number one, Caroline Wozniacki.  
She quickly plucked her entire serves without facing any breakpoint and hammered more than four times the winners, ultimately sealing the deal with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
In the final four, the American veteran faced off the top seeded Victoria Azarenka from Belarus. She maintained consistency in her game and easily pulled out the victory with a breadstick. Williams needed 63 minute to achieve the
success and inch towards the glory. She fired 33 winners including 16 aces and committed only five unforced errors.
"When you play the best in the world, you have to play better. That's what I did," Williams stated in a courtside interview after bulldozing the Belarusian top.
The 30-year-old recorded her 14th career win over a reigning world number one after dismantling Azarenka. After pocketing the match, she set up a date with the Russian top Maria Sharapova, who was also bidding to complete
her career Golden Slam at this event.
The ecstatic Williams ruled throughout her duel against the third seeded Russian. She slaughtered Sharapova after unleashing flurry of winners including 10 aces, five forehands winners and six backhand winners. Spicing her performance
further, the American spilled only seven unforced errors and consequently carved out the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 score line in 63 minutes.
The jubilant American stated in an on-court interview after achieving everything in tennis:
"I didn't expect this. I have a gold medal in singles, oh my gosh. I got the gold. I'm just so happy. I just feel good about my game. I've practiced so hard. It was time. It's too much. I never expected gold in singles. I was so
happy with my doubles gold. I thought if my career's over I have my gold medal, now I have everything, literally. I have everything there is to win in tennis. Where do I go from here? Now I can go to Disneyworld.”
After conquering the Olympics, Williams won 34 of her last 35 matches and bagged a total of 44 titles. She passed her sister, Venus, for most amongst active players and became the second women player to complete her Career Golden
Grand Slam.
Before entering Olympics, the American icon successfully defended her title at the Bank of the West Classic on hard courts. She is geared up for the US Open, last of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Corona Park in Queens,
and is looking forward to capture her fourth title at the Flushing Meadows.
