Serena Williams vs Li Na
After facing undoubtedly her toughest test of Wimbledon so far in the previous round against Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams now faces another tough test in the form of Li Na.
Beating Sharapova 7-6 6-4 to secure her place in the quarter-finals, Williams had to fight hard to beat the Russian in their first meeting on grass since the 2004 Wimbledon final, where Williams lost 6-1 6-4.
Na, the current world No.12, beat Agnieszka Radwanska in dominating straight sets victory 6-3 6-2. Na used her powerful ground strokes against the world No.9 and seventh seed to dominate the match, something Williams will have to be wary of.
But after facing the hard-hitting Sharapova in her previous match Williams should be in good form against another hard hitting opponent. Williams also has the better head-to-head record between the two, losing just once to Na in five matches.
Her only defeat against Na came in Stuttgart in 2008 and since then it has been Williams who has taken every match, including this year at the Australian open where the defending Wimbledon champion won a hard fought game in two tie-breaks.
The pair have never met on grass and that will be an advantage to the American, who is looking for her fourth Wimbledon title, but still it won’t be easy against Na, who is making her second Wimbledon quarter-final appearance.
