I was reading an article and it said this year is the first time she played singles at the Olympics. I always assumed she played singles in 2000 & 2004. I guess her not playing singles in 2000 make sense since there were higher ranked players in the U.S. such a Venus, Davenport and Capriati. Does anyone know why she didn't play in 2004?

  1. She didn't play in the 2004 Olympics in singles because she had a left knee injury, but she did win the Gold with her sister in doubles in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney Australia. Being that the case, this is the first time she is playing singles in the Summer Olympics and she won the first round 6-3 6-1.
