was the serendipity in new york city closed due to rats? i was planning on going there when i go to new york city, and i really need to know.

  1. Yes, as stated, the DOH closed down Serendipity due to health code violations (involving vermin)

    Every restaurant in NYC has pests - serendipity just had too many.


  2. You should be able to contact the NY health department and they can explain to you why they closed.

  3. Sanitation issues. Even the thought makes me ill. I'll never watch the movie with John Cusack and Molly Shannon quite the same way. :P

  4. The Board of Health closed Serendipity in November because of mice, flies and roaches.  They were permitted to reopen.  (There are usually long lines waiting to get in there and pay for very mediocre overpriced food - and think about the mice and roaches)

    Payard on Lexington Avenue and 73rd Street has much better desserts.  It's also a good place to see celebrities.

  6. That's what I heard. Plus, it's not that impressive. When I went there, we had to wait an extremely long time for food that wasn't even good. Spend your time eating at better places- have fun!
