Question:

Sergeant's Skip-Flea and Tick Shampoo for cats...?

My kitty has fleas, and about a week ago I used this shampoo on her. I just gave her another bath today because she showed little to no signs of improvement. Unfortunately I started reading some absolutely horrific reviews on this brand of shampoo that resulted in numerous cases of the cat's death, and though it says to use once every two weeks I gave her two in one week. I am horribly concerned about this.

What do I do? Is she fine, or should I be looking for symptoms that I should take her to the vet?

  1. The active ingredient in some of those shampoos make the coats of the cats dry and their skin itchy. You probably are ok and your kitty is lucky.

Instead of shampooing your kitty any more why not take her in for a vet exam or Humane Society exam and get a prescription for one of the major miracle flea medicines like "Revolution" or "Advantage" or "Frontline?"

End of your parasite problems and it only costs $10 a month for a happy cat--and happy owner with no fleas in the house.

  2. Go to the Vet office and ask to buy some Frontline plus, advantage, or revolution.  It is more expensive but much easier and much more effective.  When you go to the vet to buy the stuff just ask them about the side effects of the stuff you already tried and see if they think you need to bring the cat in for a checkup.

The ones I suggested keep the fleas away for a month and you can put a new tube on the cat every month to kill the fleas they have and prevent them for that month.  You will probably want to use it at least two months in a row because the fleas eggs can hatch after 6 weeks but on treatment is only for 4 weeks. Make sure you vacuum the house, wash the pillows and sheets the cat sleeps on and if they are biting you too you may need to fog the house.  I just used some advantage on my two cats yesterday and the fleas are gone already.  Make sure you ask the vet about using anything right after the shampoo you did try and how long you should wait.

  3. I can't imagine a National Brand putting out a product that would be so brutal as what you read.  Follow the instructions,...if it says once every two weeks, then do it only once every two weeks.  The shampoo is to kill the eggs and it takes that long at least to see improvement.  Just keep an eye on her and if she becomes ill then consult your vet.

  4. dont use ANY other flea products on her and if you can give her a regular bath with a gentle soap to try to remove any residue from this horrible product you used...if you notice her shaking or convulsing then you MUST take her to the vet IMMEDIATELY...you cannot use any other flea products on her for 30 days and dont use Hartz products or flea collars preferably Frontline or Advantage or Revolution
