Sergei Bobrovsky shuts down Dallas Stars as Philadelphia Flyers glide to victory 4-1 -NHL Update
Philadelphia had a change up in the roster for their match against Dallas which had surprising results with Claude Giroux back on the ice after missing four-games due to a concussion and Sergei Bobrovsky in the net for Ilya Bryzgalov as the Flyers glided
to victory over the Stars, 4-1, on Wednesday night, December 21, 2011, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, United States.
The Flyers were on a two-game losing streak but Bobrovsky had his mind set on snapping the slump with his 30 save performance and falling short on only one throughout the 60 minute contest while Richard Bachman stopped only 26 of a potential 30 on his net.
"What a huge win for our organization tonight", Philadelphia coach, Peter Laviolette, said. "We get one of our top players back and a chance to move into first overall in the Eastern Conference".
Giroux picked up four points in his debut with one goal and three assists by setting up his teammates constantly to take the match.
Michael Ryder scored the first of the night 56 seconds into the contest which gave the impression that Dallas was looking forward to an early lead, but it turned out to be their last as Giroux added the equaliser on a snap shot nearly midway through to break
the Stars momentum.
Former Los Angeles Kings player, Wayne Simmonds, potted the tie-breaker nearly three minutes later on their first added man advantage of the night, which certainly gave them a much needed confidence boost heading into the second period.
Jaromir Jagr showed up strong at the 8:00 mark in the second period on another power play opportunity as Dallas lost Sheldon Souray to minor penalty for slashing. Giroux and Jagr were playing the puck on their way to the Stars net with the latter shooting
it through Bachman.
Andrej Meszaros secured the match and finalised the scoring to give Giroux his third straight assist for his fourth goal of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season in the opening five minutes of the third.
"I think [after Dallas' early goal] we just started to relax, play our game, get on the fore check and make sure we don't do any mistakes out there", Giroux said.
Dallas has the next against Nashville Predators on Friday while New York Rangers are the next target of Philadelphia the same day.
