career in the near future.
“The decision to retire was not an easy one. I hope that I have made the right decision. I think it is the right time to say farewell. I received a lot of proposals to pursue a career as a player but of course,
they were not from the top clubs. Given the family's circumstances, it was time to make another tough decision in my life because I think I need to settle down in one place for a longer period of time,” The UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The 37-year-old midfielder, who left Rubin Kazan to join Zenit St. Petersburg approximately three years ago, played his last game against Kuban Krasnodar at Kuban Stadium back in April this year.
Meanwhile, Semak managed to score two goals in 16 league appearances this season. Surprisingly enough, the defensive mid scored both of them against CSKA Moscow back in August last year.
The 5ft 10in centre half helped Zenit reach the Russian Cup quarter-final after scoring the opening goal of the round-of-16 against Mordovia Saransk at Start Stadium back in October Last year. Above all, Semak
continued his heroics in the European tournament after opening his goal-scoring account in Zenit’s crucial 2-0 win in the UEFA Europa League’s tie against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC at Petrovsky stadium this season.
Reports in Russian media linked Semak with a return to Luzhniki stadium this summer after CSKA’s Leonid Slutsky publically expressed a desire to sign the talented midfield maestro despite his growing age.
However, Semak revealed that he did not receive any offer from the Moscow-based club which helped him make his decision easier.
The former Asmaral Moscow man congratulated the Armeytsy after they managed to reclaim the league title and the Russian Cup this season, saying that CSKA truly deserved to become the Champions of Russia after
missing it out last season.
