Former Spartak Moscow man has praised Ailton Almeida and has urged Zenit to work on their defence if they are to reach later stages in the UEFA Champions League
Terek Grozny managed to record a 2-0 win in the Russian Premier League against Zenit St. Petersburg at Petrovsky stadium on Friday. The Meshki compiled a below par defensive display as they conceded two late goals in the match.
This is Zenit’s second home defeated in three game after their shocking defeat against Rubin Kazan last month. Having started the league campaign with confidence after claiming back-to-back clean sheets, the St. Petersburg club
conceded in almost every game of the championship.
Luciano Spalletti made a host of changes to his side against the Chechens. However, Sergei Shavlo cannot understand why the former AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Renat-Yanbayev-c30821, instead of Domenico Criscito.
Shavlo has heaped praise on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aílton-Almeida-c4096, saying that the former Copenhagen striker has a bright future at Rostov-on-don and the Chechens are fortunate enough to have him in their team.
There is little arguing to the statement that the Brazilian striker impressed in the UEFA Champions League last season, having scored seven goals in 14 European appearances last term.
The 56-year-old lamented Zenit’s latest defeat, saying that Spalletti’s men will struggle in Europe this season if they continue to make such defensive mistakes in near future.
“Ailton Almeida scored an amazing goal after cutting through Zenit’s defence. I don’t think that the St. Petersburg club will achieve something in the Champions League, with this type of defence.”
“Zenit signed star players during the summer transfer window. They paid attention to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029 while forget about Almeida. Zenit’s defence should have done home work to stop the Brazilian footballer. He is settled himself
quickly at a new club, in a new country.” The Soviet Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The Bomzhi have been tied against AC Milan, Malaga CF and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RSC-Anderlecht-c40394 in the group stages and will play their first group stage game against the Spanish outfit on 18th September at La Rosaleda (Malaga).
