Sergey Punko captures Men’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Sergey Punko of Russia captured gold medal of Men’s 400m freestyle in S12 category on initial day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
The Russian swimmer stifled hopes of his challengers by demonstrating his laudable efforts in the playoff of the 400m event. With his persistent efforts, Punko remained in a significant lead over his opponents and hit the wall for gold medal.
He continued his commendable pace from the start and finished the eight-lap freestyle event in a phenomenal timing of 4 minutes and 10.26 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Enrique Floriano of Spain, who remained nearly 4.50 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall for second position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 14.77 seconds.
Floriano was traced by Sergii Klippert of Ukraine, who remained nearly 2.50 seconds slower and clinched bronze medal of the race by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 17.12 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Omar Font of Spain, who stayed almost four seconds slower from claiming third position of the event and clocked a timing of 4 minutes and 21.01 seconds.
Font was followed by Tucker Dupree of USA, who stayed 3.50 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 4 minutes and 24.51 seconds.
Dupree was chased by Daniel Simon of Germany, who remained 6.44 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and reached the wall as sixth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 4 minutes and 30.95 seconds.
Simon was trailed by Ignacio Gonzalez of Argentina, who completed his swim in seventh best place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 34.38 seconds.
Gonzalez was followed by Fabrizio Sottile of Italy, who remained more than two body lengths behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 36.74 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Punko received massive admiration from the crown for his notable efforts and raked medal after the event.
