Sergio Aguero claims Atletico Madrid can beat Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid striker Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero claims that his side are more than capable of defeating city rivals Real Madrid when the clubs clash in La Liga on Sunday, 8 November.

Jose Mourinho’s side are unbeaten so far this season and are at the top of the league. However, Argentina international Aguero believes that his side are more than capable of springing a surprise when they visit the Bernabeu.

He told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE that: “We have a good team, one that needs to win at Madrid one day, and hopefully it will be this year.”

Despite sitting in sixth place — nine points behind Madrid —Atletico are no slouches themselves. They won the inaugural UEFA Europa League last season and kicked off the new campaign with a win over European champions Inter Milan in the UEFA Super Cup.

Aguero added that he has no intention of leaving Atletico, despite speculation linking him with a move to English Premier League champions Chelsea or Manchester United.
'I want to stay here'

He said that: “I want to stay here. I’m happy. I love the team, and I never wanted to leave Atletico, even in bad times. I always said I was happy and content. I told my agent that if an offer came in for me to then talk to the club, but I never raised the
idea of leaving Atletico.”

Aguero joined the Spanish side in 2006 from Indipendiente in his homeland, for a fee believed to be around 23m euros. He has featured for Atletico 202 times and has scored 80 goals, as well as creating 38 goals for team-mates.

As well as the Europa League and Super Cup, Aguero has won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with Atletico. He is also an Olympic gold medallist having won the football tournament in Beijing with the Argentina national team.
