Sergio Aguero’s arrival at Manchester City gives Roberto Mancini options - English Premier League (Part 2)
There is no doubting the fact that Manchester City have indeed signed a significantly talented footballer in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Kun Aguero from Atletico Madrid. The Argentinean striker can play in different positions across the front line.
At Atletico Madrid, he played as a withdrawn striker alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Forlan up front in their attack. He was useful as a striker who dropped back into the midfield area to link up with his team’s creative forces. In doing so, Aguero created a problem for his
marker who had a difficult decision to make due to his movement.
If the marker in question follows Sergio to the midfield area then this will create a void at the back which can be exploited by the wingers as well as the Argentinean striker’s offensive partner. If he doesn’t follow Aguero, then
this creates another issue as the forward will have plenty of space to influence the proceedings from a deep position in between the midfield and the front line.
Moreover, Aguero can also play as a left forward or a right forward in a 4-3-3 formation. On the left hand side, the Argentinean striker can cut inside and link up with his strike partner whilst on the right hand side he can create
options for the rest of his team mates by attracting the attention of the opposing team’s defenders. At Manchester City, Aguero will have to compete for a starting line up place alongside the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez. In total,
City will have four world class strikers in their squad as they take to the field in the 2011-2012 English Premier League season.
This means that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 must decide which one of these forwards will lead the line and who will take their place on the bench for most part of the season. As with most striking partnerships consistency is the key to success, therefore
the former Inter Milan manager will be keen to sort out his first choice partnership as soon as possible. On paper, the Aguero – Tevez partnership looks like a real winner. Both the players complement each other and having played for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 on a regular
basis, they have the necessary understanding to play alongside in a two man attack.
This partnership can only come to fruition if Tevez chooses to stay at City rather than seek a move away from Manchester. It will also mean that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini will to abandon his 4-6-0/4-5-1 formation that worked well for him
last season. With Aguero and Tevez up front, the Italian tactician will most probably go with a 4-3-1-2 formation, something that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-c22056.

Richards – Lescott – Kompany – Clichy
Toure – De Jong – Barry
Silva
Tevez – Aguero
This formation implies that City’s water tight defence will be further complimented by a deep three man midfield which will be marshalled by the presence of Yaya Toure. In Barry and De Jong, City will have two accomplished defensive
midfielders whilst Silva will provide the required ammunition to Tevez and Aguero up front who can drop back to assist Silva as well.
