http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero’s arrival at Manchester City gives Roberto Mancini options - English Premier League (Part 3)
In part 2, we took a look at the 4-3-1-2 formation which http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez and Sergio Aguero in their best positions. However this formation has its own problems. As showcased
by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan’s lacklustre season last time around, the 4-3-1-2 formation lacks genuine width which means that teams playing a game plan focused on wing play can easily exploit the 4-3-1-2 formation. A lack of width means that this formation in question requires
wing backs to march forward and provide their team mates with width, something that both Richards and Clichy are more than capable of doing but that leaves a hole at the back which can be a target of quick counter attacks.
Moreover at Manchester City, the success of a 4-3-1-2 formation depends on Carlos Tevez’s decision to stay at the Eastlands stadium as well as the creative talents of David Silva. If Silva is injured that City will have to change
their formation in question, some might say that Toure can replace Silva and he can be in turn replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 in the midfield department. This proposition does hold some water but Toure is primarily a physical midfield player, a box to box operator
that specializes in controlling the midfield department and allowing Silva to work his magic, he is not an accomplished offensive midfielder or a trequartista and thus cannot be depended on.
Another formation that Mancini’s City could play in is a 4-2-3-1 formation. Successfully used by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 at the FIFA 2010 World Cup and by Real Madrid throughout the 2010-2011 season, this formation means that City will have to
adapt to a system and Mancini will have to resist the temptation of playing all of his superstars.

Richards – Lescott – Kompany – Clichy
Yaya Toure/Barry – De Jong
Johnson – Silva – Milner
Tevez/Aguero/Dzeko/Balotelli
The 4-2-3-1 formation means that Mancini will have to decide between http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 in a trequartista role whilst
Milner and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937. Dzeko and Balotelli
might be better options when City are playing immediately after their UEFA Champions League commitments in the English Premier League whilst Tevez or Aguero will be better options for the UEFA Champions League where teams are harder to break down.
The 4-2-3-1 formation is primarily a defensive one which allows the team to keep it tight at the back courtesy of the two defensive midfielders. In attack, this formation is suitable for teams which focus on counter attacks. Additionally
for a team playing with the ball at their feet for most part of the game, 4-2-3-1 is a formation which is best used with slow build up play rather than a quick fast paced attack. It will be interesting to see which formation Mancini goes with but one thing
is for sure that Sergio Aguero’s arrival as the capacity to hail in a new era for City, an era which can see them dominate domestically and spring a surprise or two in European football as well.
