Sergio Gabriel Martinez: Julio Junior must worry about my physical and mental speed – Boxing News
Sergio Gabriel Martinez, the WBC Diamond middleweight champion, is confident that he can easily nail Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, and in a recent statement warned the WBC middleweight champion that he must be worried about his physical and mental speed, intelligence
and above all experience.
Martinez who seriously despises the young Julio junior will see his dream come to realisation when he takes on the Mexican in a 12-round bout with his title on the line on September 15, 2012.
Sergio has been rigorously in pursuit of Chavez junior, a man who he dubs as an orchestrated brawler carefully made by putting up against under par pugilists, for more than a year.
Gabriel was meant to defend his title against a mandatory challenger, Sebastian Zbik, who was later on ignored by the HBO in fact thumbed down. As a result, Sergio had to vacate the title.
HBO’s irony got evident from the fact that they announced a bout for Sergio’s vacant title between Julio and the man who they thumbed down initially that is Zbik. It is this reason why Sergio antagonises Julio.
Gabriel stated, “Some ask me why I antagonize Chavez Junior but I’m not being aggressive. I’m just telling the truth. I think it’s unjust for [the WBC] to lie to me and for Chavez to remain the champion even after having to fight me a while ago, and for
things to be the way they are just to protect this boxer. [Team Chavez] gave their word that they would fight me. I’m speaking my mind, which is different from Chavez, who only says what his father wants him to say like some teenager.”
Sergio, who has been in a total of 53 bouts, boasting 49 wins with 28 coming by way of knockouts, further added that he is pretty confident about the fact that he can nail Julio easily.
Also known as ‘Maravilla’, the Argentinean proud praised Freddie Roach, Julio’s trainer, for doing extreme hard work on correcting Chavez Junior’s mistakes. Martinez was of the view that it is due to Freddie’s training and precious advice that Julio takes
less punishment now.
Sergio commented that before the arrival of Roach Julio took severe punishment, adding that he did not know even the basics of the sport. Martinez and Julio junior will meet at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and will definitely
put forth an explosive showdown.
