Sergio Garcia bags second consecutive European Tour victory at Andalucía Masters in Spain
Sergio Garcia is most definitely on course to a baffling resurgence as the 31-year-old Spaniard clinched his second title in matter of one week, with a victory at Andalucía Masters. Becoming the first Spaniard to win a stroke play event at the scenic Club
de Golf Valderrama, Garcia pulled in an impressive performance on the 72-hole stretch to bag his second back to back victory after almost three years.
Garcia was coming out of a massive win at the Castello Masters just a week ago where he won the event by a lead of 11-strokes. Utilizing the recently gained confidence, Garcia posted rounds of 70, 70, 67 and 71 on the weekend to clear the field by one shot.
“It’s very, very special,” said the 31 year old. “Valderrama - I have so much history here and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as this until now! “I’m just happy with my year. We all know how difficult golf is. This is a working process, I’ll keep working
on it, and trying hard and enjoying it.”
His countryman Miguel Angel Jimenez finished for an outright second while the first round leader Richie Ramsay finished further down the leaderboard, trailing the leader by two shots. Jimenez’ performance has been one of his strong performances in the year
and he remained in contention leading the front nine.
Martin Kaymer has to settle for another disappointing finish when he finished for a joint 23rd alongside Ross Fisher and three other contenders.
Garcia is now set to break into the top-20 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and has also earned precious Race to Dubai Points with the victory. The Spaniard has hit form right ahead of the WGC HSBC Championship which was the last event he won in
2008 before his recent resurgence. He lurked in obscurity for a three painfully long years to post his ninth European Tour victory at Castello Masters. He mesmerized his fans in the US Open and the Open Championship this year pulling in impressive top-ten
performances even when he continued playing with an injured finger.
“I knew that I had game, because I had it before, but obviously, when your head is not in the right spot it doesn’t matter how much game you have, your muscles won’t listen.” said an ever-grinning Garcia. He collected winner’s cheque of € 500,000.
