Sergio Garcia changes his caddie once again
When Sergio Garcia missed the cut at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island, he parted ways with his long time caddie, Gary Mathews. It has been a summer to forget for the Spaniard. However, a victory at the Wyndham has brought some respite for him.
Sergio headed to the Wyndham Championship with a make shift caddie, David Faircloth. David worked at a private club and a member recommended him to Garcia.
However, after winning the Wyndham Championship, Garcia has changed his caddie once again. He has hired an ex CBS spotter, Wayne Richardson, as his caddie. He is not a professional caddie, so he will just be a carrying his bag and nothing more.
"He is not a professional caddie, but I do not feel like I need that at the moment," Garcia said.
"I am probably just going to do my own thing until the end of the year, and then at the end of the year I will decide what is best for me".
As far as the Ryder Cup is concerned, Garcia will probably be going in to that tournament with a professional caddie. Ryder Cup is an extremely tough competition, mentally and physically. A professional caddie is needed there for comfort and guidance.
Richardson has known Sergio for the last five years and he was excited, yet nervous, about the new job.
Richardson said that he was pretty nervous about the prospect of carrying Sergio's bag but he knows his role is just that. Moreover, he just has to follow what the boss says.
As Richardson is not a professional caddie, he will not be getting the regular 10% of Garcia’s earnings. Nevertheless, both of them have come to an understanding, which they will not disclose.
Contrary to last year, Garcia has performed well. He won the first tournament in four year and has secured a Ryder Cup birth as well.
"Well, I think that you go through spots and through times in your career where obviously you have up and downs. And when you go on those downs obviously it's not much fun. But you kind of try to get through them," Garcia said.
