Sergio Garcia eyes a victory at the Thailand Golf Championship
Sergio Garcia is set to participate in the second-last Asian Tour event of the season, the Thailand Golf Championship, slated to start from Thursday, December 6, 2012.
The Thailand Golf Championship, which is also known as the region’s premier golf championship because of its strong field, will be played at the Amata Spring Country Club in Bangkok.
The Spaniard is currently enjoying a great run of form, having finished tied for the ninth position at the European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
This year, he recorded a total of six top-15 finishes in his 13 European Tour starts. He also tasted success on the US circuit, by winning the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship in August.
In addition to that, he also played a key role in European team’s success in this year’s edition of the Ryder Cup.
He is now confident to mark a strong end to his campaign, with a victory in the Thailand Golf Championship.
Last year, he finished tied for the 24th position, in the inaugural edition of the tournament. Besides faltering for a 76 in the opening round, he posted under-par scores in each of the last three rounds.
This week, he plans to remain consistent throughout the week, in a bid to enter into contention for the top spot, right from the beginning of the tournament.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that his performance in Thailand will have a strong effect on his morale for the season-ending Iskandar Johor Open.
“I think it has been a good season. Winning in U.S. again (Wyndham Championship) was nice. The Ryder Cup obviously topped it off. That was a great way to kind of finish the year. Hopefully I can play here and have a good week in the Iskandar Johor next week,”
said Garcia.
He added, “I think this year the course is going to be a lot wetter. Unless it dries up, it is going to be a little bit softer. The rough is quite thick so it might be a bit longer. ...If it gets windy and you find the rough, you will struggle”.
