Sergio Garcia finishes fourth at the Thailand Golf Championship
Sergio Garcia of Spain finished fourth at the Thailand Golf Championship at the Amata Spring Country Club, after carding a two-under par 70 in the final round, on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
The US$1 million tournament was the second last event of the 2012 Asian Tour season, and featured a total of 132 players from different parts of the world.
Garcia got off to a confident start, as he birdied two of the first three holes that he played.  The Spaniard then conceded bogeys on the fifth and the seventh hole, prior to adding another birdie on the eighth hole to reach the turn in one-under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him add two birdies to his scorecard, against a lone bogey, to finish 13 strokes behind the winner Charl Schwartzel, who fired a 25-under par tournament score.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, the Spaniard expressed his pleasure in maintaining his form throughout the week.
In the meantime, he also praised the way Lee Westwood and Schwartzel recorded emphatic victories in the first two editions of the tournament.
“It was a positive week. I played okay. I wasn’t firing on all cylinders but I felt that I played well for most of the tournament,” he said.
He added, “It is funny how Charl (Schwartzel) and Lee (Westwood) can shoot 20-under in the last two years because it doesn’t feel like you can shoot that kind of scores on this golf course. They both deserved their wins but I can’t be disappointed with the way the week went for me”.
He is now relishing the opportunity to participate in the season-ending Iskandar Johor Open, slated to start from December 13, 2012. The US$2 million event will be staged at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club.
In the meantime, the defending champion Westwood failed to replicate his performance that led him to a seven-stroke victory in the inaugural edition of the event in 2011.
He carded a nine-under par tournament score to finish tied for the 11th position, 16 strokes behind Schwartzel. Last year, the South African finished seven strokes behind Westwood and finished second on the leaderboard.
