Sergio Garcia heads to the Masters Tournament with an injured finger nail - Golf News
Sergio Garcia has recently suffered an injury on his middle finger of the left hand, which may affect his performance in the Masters Tournament this year.
According to the details, Garcia got infection in his nail that may cause him to lose grip on the clubs. "It's going to be uncomfortable," said Garcia, who wore a small bandage over the finger.
His practice round on Wednesday witnessed him struggling with his shots because of the pain in his finger.
Because of the loosened grip on his clubs, he is struggling making long drives, which may play an important role in the damp and rainy conditions at the Augusta National.
Therefore, his future in the tournament is currently in question, whether he will be able to play the whole event.
"It felt worse today than it did yesterday, but hopefully it will be better tomorrow," he said. "I can play. I won't quit. Even if it's painful, this is a tournament that should be played".
Last year, the similar injury sidelined him from the British Open qualifiers. However, he later succeeded in making his way to the US Open, followed by the British Open.
According to Garcia, he is not happy with the timing of the injury. He was comfortably playing for the last few months and the infection took him just a couple of days before the Masters starts.
Meanwhile, another player, Dustin Johnson, suffered a back injury that forced him to withdraw from the event.
According to his agent, David Winkle of Hambric Sports Management, Johnson aggravated a lingering back injury while he tried to lift a Jet Ski last week.
He had been suffering the pain since he withdrew from the Humana Challenge. Thereafter, he started recovering from it when it caught him again before the Masters.
“With heartfelt regret, I won’t be playing in the Masters due to a tweaked back,” Johnson said on Twitter. “You have no idea how much I wanted to walk the fairways at Augusta and fulfill what I’ve been practicing for!”
Johnson now plans to consult his doctor in detail for a complete check up of his injury and the treatment.
