Sergio Garcia hopes to make it to Ryder Cup team en route Volvo World Match Play Championship

The European and American teams are now all heading towards the final selection of the teams for this year’s Ryder Cup and many of the players are now wrestling for the precious points on their respective tours to reserve a berth in the coveted event.
The European Tour will now be staging one of the most sought after Match Play event in the year, the Volvo World Match Play Championship and one of the aspiring contenders will be none other than the delectable Sergio Garcia who has his hopes pitched on
the current event at Finca Cortesin.
He said, “You all know how important The Ryder Cup is for me, so I'm looking forward to it. There's still a long time to go. I have a good possibility if I play half decent to get into the team, and that is definitely one of my goals”.
Garcia has been part of the European Ryder Cup team on six occasions in the past and also held the celebrated position of the Vice Captain last year.
In his six appearances in the coveted Ryder Cup, Garcia has led the European Team to victory on four occasions and has been an inspiring Match Play golfer in all of his appearances.
Garcia surged to stardom at an early age while playing as a Low Amateur at the Masters when he shot the lowest score playing as an Amateur.
He turned professional the same year in 1999 and made his first appearance in the Ryder Cup to become the youngest player ever to be part of the Ryder Cup team in the history of the event.
Winner of some 22 professional titles in his grizzled career, Garcia suffered a massive form vow in the last couple of years and was seen sliding out of the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
He won two back-to-back events last year to regain his top form.
Garcia is happy to be back on his home turf where he has shown stunning resilience to land the titles last year.
He added, “Everybody knows how exciting and how special it is for any guy to play in his own country. In this case, obviously for me being Spanish and playing here in Spain is always very special”.
Garcia is paired with Alvaro Quiros and Japan’s Tetsuji Hiratsuka in the Ian Woosnam group.
