Sergio Garcia in contention at Wyndham
Jimmy Walker may be leading the Wyndham Championship and Herron may have equalled the course record but Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia has made some headlines after his flawless 63.
This has been Sergio’s lowest score on the PGA tour since 2002, when he shot 62 at World Golf Championships-American Express Championship.
Sergio last won at the PGA tour back in 2008 at the Players Championship. Now, after shooting an excellent round, he will be in contention over the weekend.
"I think it was a nice day," Garcia said. "… We are all very happy with the way it went and, you know, in a good position for the weekend".
Last week at the PGA Championship Garcia missed the cut and he was so furious with himself that he said he putted like a “dog”. However at the Sedgefield Country Club it seems that Garcia is once again in the groove as he shot a flawless round of 63.
Garcia was unlucky on Thursday as some of the putts did not drop in. If they had, things might have been even better.
Missing the cut at Ocean Course meant that he dropped out of the top-ten auto qualification for the Ryder Cup team. Ryder Cup means everything to Sergio and a probable miss on it would be a certain heart break for him.
A victory here would repair some damage done at the PGA Championship. If he wins this Sunday, then chances are that he might slip back in to the top-ten automatic qualification list.
"I love the Ryder Cup and I would love to be in it.  If I am in it, I will give it my best and I will try to bring as many things as I can to the European team. If I am not I will be the No. 1 fan watching at home on TV. So, you know, that is pretty much
all you can do".
The Spaniard would have to match or even go better from this course if he has to win here at Sedgefield because there others as well who are shooting some decent scores.
