Sergio Garcia is back in business at Transitions Championship - Golf news
Sergio Garcia, the former world number two, is all set to make a comeback in the Transitions cup this week, after a month’s absence from the course. The Spanish golfer sounded upbeat about his future prospects in the sport and brushed
aside the critic’s reservations about his current form.
Garcia was not able to qualify for the WGC Cadillac Championship as well as the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship, owing to his drastically poor ranking. "To tell you the truth, I just want to be out there and just want to enjoy
playing," said the 31-year-old Garcia. "Hopefully just play better as I get on. Whatever happens happens. I know what I'm capable of doing."
Garcia has played in just three tournaments this year, mostly on the Middle Eastern courses. He shared the 30th place in the Volvo Golf Championship, ninth place at the Qatar Masters and 20th place in his venture
at the Dubai Classic, last month. Garcia suffered a heart breaking defeat at the British Open in 2007, but recovered just in time to lift the cup at the Players Championship next year.
He defeated Paul Goydos in a playoff which has been one of the prime victories of his career. He earned a staggering $6,979,959 in 2008, when he participated in a total of 26 events.
Garcia has also reportedly admitted that his swirling career owes much to his break-up with his girlfriend (Greg Norman's daughter, Morgan Leigh). He said, "Obviously a couple of things off the golf course didn't help. And then I
just started playing not great and ... knowing how I can play and what I'm capable of doing, I don't like to settle for less. So I guess a mix of those things kind of pulled me down a little bit. But we are looking forward to it now."
The last two years have seen Garcia lose the grip on his game that he earlier had. He is currently ranked at World Number 85 spot and will be able participating in next month’s Masters tournament in Augusta, credited only to his Players
Championship win in 2008.
