Sergio Garcia leads the Pool Woosnam at the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Sergio Garcia is dominating the Pool Woosnam group by 4 points, as he grabbed a victory in both the rounds of the Volvo World Match Play Championship.
The 32-year-old Spanish is excited to be on the top of his group standing in his homeland. He is also feeling proud after showing amazing performances, at the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
“I wasn't hitting the best of shots, but somehow I found a way of getting the ball in play and hitting a couple decent iron shots, gave myself good birdie chances on 11 and 12 and 15, and rolled a good putt in to get things going,” Garcia said.
“Overall I think it was a mix of hitting a couple of good shots at the right times, and getting a little bit lucky. Throughout my career, I've been fairly good at match play. As a professional, maybe not as good but as an amateur I was usually pretty good.
It's nice to get a couple of wins and hopefully we'll play well tomorrow and have a chance of winning again”.
Garcia defeated Alvaro Quiros and Tetsuji Hiratsuka. Garcia started the event, while playing against the hottest title contender Quiros.
Quiros is capable enough to lead anywhere. He has enough experience to grab the lead. However, Garcia was simply tremendous at the Spanish site and recorded enormous scores.
Garcia started the round early on Thursday. He earned five points in the first round. He scored three birdies and earned two points due to bogey shots from Quiros.
In return, Quiros only made three points, one by birdie and two points by bogey shots from Garcia. Quiros did not make impressive strokes in the first round.
Then Garcia again amazed his Spanish fans, by making seven points on Friday against Hiratsuka. He made five birdies and maintained his domination as well.
Hiratsuka lost twice. He was unable to be impressive in both the rounds and has now been eliminated from the tournament. On the other hand, Garcia and Quiros are moving ahead for the third round of the European Tour event.
