Sergio Garcia may face trouble at the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Sergio Garcia recently shared the toughness of the Volvo World Match Play Championship in one of his interviews, saying the knockout procedure poses a serious threat to him.
The 32-year-old Spanish golfer is in the field of the European Tour event, but is worried about how he will fare against rivals at the toughest Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
Garcia will have to face tough contenders in his group. He is thinking that his opponents are capable enough to defeat him early and he may lose the tournament at initial stages.
“I'm looking forward to it,” Garcia said. “I just hope that I can get my game in good shape for tomorrow, and have a couple of good days to qualify for Saturday and then we'll see what happens”.
“Everybody knows how exciting and how special it is for any guy to play in his own country. I think there are good players everywhere, in every group. It's going to be difficult no matter what”.
“Hopefully I can play nicely, and if I manage to do that, then get a couple of wins and get through. If not, I have to at least get one and make sure that my differential is good”.
The official prize fund of the event is €2,750,000 and none of the players want to miss out on such handsome figures. The tournament has reached a heightened degree of competition, and grabbing a win will not be easy for all.
The 10-time European Tour winner is in the Pool Woosnam. The other two players, who will play against him, are Tetsuji Hiratsuka and Alvaro Quiros.
Hiratsuka, the Japanese golfer, has won nine professional events, since turning professional in 1994. Among these nine victories, he recorded six at the Japan Golf Tour and four at the Asian Tour.
He made all the victories from 2003 to 2011. He is definitely a tough rival for Garcia and an appealing match is expected between the both.
Quiros, the Spaniard, has won eight professional events in total. He recorded six at the European Tour, one at Challenge Tour and one at Seville Open.
In 2011, he grabbed two titles, Dubai Desert Classic and Dubai World Championship. His presence is also tough for Garcia and he has to utilise extra efforts to defeat him.
Garcia will tee off on Thursday againt these two professionals. If he plays well and delivers his best in Spain, he can defeat both.
